Getting Started: Know your funder and their interests.
Many Foundations and private donors have identified a field of interest. Some may be interested in supporting projects that want to improve health and wellness, other may want to fund environmental causes. Be sure to visit the funder’s webpage and review their interests and guidelines. It is important that you organization and your potential funder to have mission alignment.
Go Ahead! Contact potential funders today!
Important to note that many foundations have reorganized their strategies to fund the work of nonprofits.
Many funders have hired philanthropic advisors, ( managers or coordinators) who vet requests for funding before a request goes to the review committee or the trustees. The philanthropic advisors can assist your organization in making sure that your project and your request are ready to be funded.
In some cases, the advisors will provide guidance on how to improve your project plans and your application as a means of meeting the goals of your project and those of the foundation.
